Readin'

.
I wish books had a rating system, like movies do.
.
Not for the kiddos. I haven't had an issue there.
.
But for the bigger kiddos. And me.
.
Yesterday I picked up a book that looked great. I scanned over it quickly and saw no bad words, no warning signs. Rae started reading it on the way home and walked straight into her room with it, laughing.
.
"Heeeeeeeeeeyyyy, I got that for me!" I said.
/
Shortly afterward she came and handed the book to me, "This book is bad!"
/
Of course, I had to read what she read, to see what she's talking about, and sure enough it was bad. Real bad. Real, real bad!
.
I wish books had a rating system, like movies do.

me too. i picked up a book at the library that looked like it would be a light, fun read...and i returned it when i got to the first explicit scene. it would have been nice to have a warning. i think a rating system is a great idea.

Oh that is sooo true! Books can be so much worse than movies. And yet we never hear about them.

I'm reading a cute one. Mennonite in a Little Black Dress. It's cute like Zippy. Maybe a little more . . . PG-13 rated.

Also Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale is way way way good.

Argh! That stinks. I agree, this book holds Adult themes, language, etc., etc. I guess it holds true that you can gift wrap crap and it'll look oh so good, but it's still crap. Drives me crazy too.

Hey, that reminds me about that New Era postcard with the cockroach in the ice cream. "It's Great Except For...the Bad Parts", in New Era Postcard set 5.

meanwhile - check out book blogs - oh wait, I even have one to recommend at www.whatallthekidsarereading.blogspot.com

not that I'm tooting my own horn, but it is ALL about books and their "appropriateness" (toot, toot)
