Sweet, Darling, Romantic, Adorable, even Vintage

The above words describe this very book. Does it not seem fitting that a young woman who wrote such a book that could be described in that way, would have the middle name of Hart and the last name Lovelace?

Maud Hart Lovelace would tell her young daughter bedtime stories of her childhood when it was decided she should write them down in story form for a book. Heaven to Betsy became a book in 1945. Mrs. Lovelace loved her childhood and childhood friends, you will too.
.
There is much in Lovelace's books that I could relate to, including this part when Betsy and her two sisters are discussing their parents on their parents 21st anniversary. As they are on their way to surprise their mother by meeting them for dinner at the Moorish Cafe, their is this conversation in the book-
.
"Aren't you glad we are us?"
"Let's see," said Betsy. "If Mamma had married somebody else, we'd be just half ourselves."
"And if Papa had married someone else, too, there'd be another half of us goodness knows where."
"How exciting! I could pass myself on the street."
.
How I remember realizing that my parents had life's before us, before each other. I remember the deep thoughts of who and where I would be if they had married somebody else!
.
Maud Hart Lovelace spoke of having a wonderful childhood as is obvious in the book. How nice it is to hear of a wonderful childhood. All the more wonderful to be taken back to such a time when an all-girl party is called a hen party and teenage girls ran along holding hands.
.
If you haven't yet read the Betsy-Tacy series and are in the need of something sweet and clean, this is the book for you.

All8- The book was just right for me too. Soooo sweet. I wish I could have bottled up some Ida for you! :)

Ma- I found it at B&N. They have the whole set up until Betsy gets married. I need to go back and get the rest. When I read Gary that part of the book, he said he remembers having the same thought. It was from looking at a picture his mom had of another beau. :) And he thought, "If mom had married him, I would be much better looking." haha!! What's so funny is we are always looking at pictures of a former love when they are like.... 17 or 18, comparing them to a 40 year old parent. HA!

I loved the Betsy-Tacy books when I was a kid! Our library got rid of them not too long ago, because they hadn't been checked out in FOREVER...they looked too old, I think. And then there were Betsy, Tacy and Tib books...sigh. Happy memories...
