Once I mentioned that my two oldest were artists and that we recently discovered that Rae was too. I am still not over the amazement of that discovery. Rae might be over it, what with all her homework (and art gives her the most homework by far) but I am not.
.
If you ever took art in school, you may remember doing the grids.
.
It works, it really trains the eye (of the tiger).
.
When I was in high school we did a self portait using this method. I remember the picture of me that the teacher took to use, my bangs were a mess and I tried to improve on it in my picture. It didn't really work.
.
I had the self portrait until about 10 years ago, it was massive and tattered and torn and I decided to throw it out. I wish I had taken a picture first.
.
But truth be told, the bangs I tried to fake are imbeded in my mind, so it's as though I do.
.It hasn't even been a year since Rae has put a pencil to paper in this way but she's come a long way.

very awesome rae...i'm impressed!
(lo, you are too much of a perfectionist about your work! you were and are a good artist!)
Please tell Rae to stick with this. Even if it's not something she pursues as a career, it will be a great avenue for peace in stressful moments. There is nothing better than creating great art that soothes not only your soul, but those around you. She has great skill and a wonderful eye.
holy cow! that's awesome. i am horrible at art. there is no way i could come close to doing what she did.
very impressive... hope she keeps it up, I wish I did
Ma- did you just put my name and the word perfect in the same sentence??? Cause those two words don't go together!
Katie- I will and I agree!
